Abe Sapien : Drums of the Dead
title: Illustrator
I'd been a big fan of Mike Mignola's stuff from his early 'Alpha Flight'
covers and onwards all the way to 'Hellboy'. I'd met him and shown him my
work the same year I got hired to do Predator. Many years later, while I
was at ILM, the notion of an Abe Sapien spinoff was brewing. Brian Mc'Donald,
my friend and collaborator, came up with a great story idea, and I did some
sketches to go with it. Mike and Dark Horse gave the green light, and we
started.
I did a lot of development sketches for Abe and the Hyena-like creature
he fights (some of these will be posted soon). I also inked my own pencil
artwork this time, which I preferred. It was nice to come back to comics
after four years of doing game and film work. I was able to approach it
completely differently than Predator, and it was fun to do. Brian's stories
always inspired me in drawing, and our collaboration continued with 'Bindu'.
